Christmas in Essex 2014

The annual Magic of Christmas in Essex event will take place on Saturday, December 13, 2014. Come celebrate the holidays in Essex, NY with many fun activities and you’ll find great items at the local shops and vendors during your gift shopping this year!

Friday, December 12, 2014 (The unofficial start of Christmas in Essex)

The Pleasant Valley Chorale will present a program of holiday music, both sacred and secular, entitled “Let It Snow!” on Friday, December 12th at 7:30pm at the Essex Community Church. The chorale is a 40-voice ensemble, directed by Susan Hughes, accompanied by Mary Lu Kirsty, and sponsored by the Elizabethtown Social Center. Admission is free with a goodwill donation accepted at the door

(If you miss Friday’s concert, the chorale will reprise the program on Sunday, December 14th at the UCC Church in Elizabethtown at 3:00pm.)

9:00 am – 3:00 pm HOLIDAY VENDORS located at Lake Champlain Yoga & Wellness and Essex Town Hall
Includes: Jewelry, ornaments, biscotti, maple syrup, Champlain Area Trails, wovens, Essex doodles, photography, paintings, wreaths, baked goods, pottery, glass, hot cider, snacks and local crafts

Visit local shops: Pink Pig, Neighborhood Nest, Essex Ice Cream Café, The Cupola House, Lake Champlain Yoga & Wellness, ReNew, Essex Inn (dinner available)

9:30 am Santa & Mrs. Claus arrive at Essex Ferry dock where they will greet children and families

9:45 am Essex Fire Department transports Santa and Mrs. Claus from the Essex Ferry dock to the Essex Fire Station

9:45 am – 11:00 am Free pancake breakfast with Santa and Mrs. Claus at the Essex Fire Station

9:30 am – 3:00 pm Fabulous Holiday Photo Booth – Essex Ice Cream Café
Get your picture taken and enjoy baked goods, specialty coffee drinks (peppermint lattées), hot cider, hot cocoa and fire pit

10:00 am – 5:00 pm Essex Christmas Art Show – Adirondack Art Association
View and purchase art from local artists and sample some delicious hot cocoa

10:00 am – 4:00 pm Belden Noble Library Silent Auction

12:00 pm – 12:30 pm Reindeer Fun Run for Kids around Beggs Point (start & finish at Lake Champlain Yoga & Wellness)

12:45 pm – 2:00 pm Photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus (Essex Ice Cream Café)

2:00 pm Town Tree Lighting with Christmas music/sing along from Willsboro CSD students
Santa and Mrs. Claus will travel across the street and light the Town Tree (located in front of Town Hall). Join us and local carolers as we celebrate the symbol of the season. Children who have completed their scavenger hunt card can turn it in to Santa for a Christmas gift from Essex!

2:30 pm Local author Steven Kellogg reads his book Pinkerton Behave! at the Belden Noble Library
Stephen will be selling (as a donation to the Library) hard copies of this treasured story for $20. He will inscribe an original drawing, a personalization, and a signature in each purchased book. Don’t miss this unique opportunity!

3:15 pm 2014 Holiday Cookie Contest hosted by the Pink Pig (Visit the Pink Pig and speak with Deb Schrodt for all of the details!)

3:00 pm – 9:00 pm Enjoy a delicious meal at the Essex Inn

5:30 pm – 6:30 pm  CEVE Happy Hour at the Essex Inn
Come enjoy some spirits with good friends and neighbors! Cash bar, $5 for snacks.

7:00 pm Anne Hills and Michael Smith in concert at The Grange. Two of the best singer-songwriters around in a special and rare performance together. Tickets: $12 / under 18, $6. The Grange will be collecting donations of cash, toiletries and non-perishable food for local food banks at this show. More info at www.thegrangehall.info.
